Body
On November 25, 2014 The Healthcare Foundation of Northern Lake County awarded the Lake County Health Department and Community Health Center $97,000 in grant funding. The grant will be used to fund operations at the Round Lake Area Student Health and Wellness Center. Specifically, grant funds will be used to cover: salaries and benefits for the Nurse Practitioner/SBHC Coordinator and Certified Medical Assistant; office supplies; medical/operational supplies; drugs/medicines; and outreach mailings to recruit patients for the site.
LCHD/CHC is also projecting that the Student Health and Wellness Center will generate $76,859 in revenue during the FY 2015 year. This patient-generated revenue will cover the remainder of the operational budget for the site including: contractual costs for mental health professionals; contractual costs for laboratory services; contractual costs for the use of the copier; printing; health education supplies; professional development/travel costs for staff at the site; and access costs for internet at the site. This revenue projection is based on the site having 3 medical visits, 3 mental health visits and 1 psychiatrist visit per day for the rest of the current school year and then increasing the visits per day to 6, 6 and 2 respectively for the next school year. This stepped revenue projection will allow LCHD/CHC more time to build services at the site.
Providing medical and mental health services at the Round Lake Area Student Health and Wellness Center is consistent with LCHD/CHC's most recent strategic plan. Specifically, the site addresses the key strategic priority area of ensuring "Coordination of Care: Access to a Medical Home and Behavioral Health."
The grant period for the award is November 25, 2014 through November 24, 2015.
