Joint resolution authorizing an emergency appropriation and acceptance of a grant award in the amount of $8,800 for a Tobacco Enforcement program from the State of Illinois Liquor Control.
Staff Summary
* This is the annual Tobacco Enforcement Grant which covers the time period of August 1, 2014 through June 30, 2015.
* The total grant of $8,800 covers all expenses related to enforcement including: 141 overtime hours at $58 per hour for a total of $8,178 and $620 for individuals posing as minors to attempt to purchase tobacco.
* There will be three rounds of compliance checks with a fine potential of $250 for the first violation and up to $500 for subsequent violations.
Body
WHEREAS, the State of Illinois Liquor Control Commission has notified the Lake County Sheriff that a Tobacco Enforcement Grant has been awarded for the time period August 1, 2014 through June 30, 2015; and
WHEREAS, the Lake County Sheriff will provide compliance checks with tobacco retailers; and
WHEREAS, the grant must be formally accepted by Lake County and the necessary appropriations and approvals made.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, by this County Board of Lake County, Illinois, that the award from the Illinois Liquor Control Commission for the Lake County Sheriff's Tobacco Enforcement Grant in the amount of $8,800 for the period beginning August 1, 2014 through June 30, 2015 is hereby accepted; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Chairman of the Board, the Lake County Sheriff, and the Lake County Treasurer are hereby authorized to execute the necessary documentation in order to accept the grant (grant program agreement to be attached hereto and hereby made a part of this resolution); and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that an emergency appropriation for the grant in the amount of $8,800 is hereby authorized as follows:
