Staff Summary
* Lake County desires to enter into contracts with qualified providers for youth programs to service in-school and out-of-school youth under the federal Workforce Investment Act.
* Lake County extended a Request for Proposal to 154 providers and received nine sealed proposals from six service providers.
* The Workforce Development Board Selection Review Committee has recommended awards be made to five service providers that offered favorable proposals to meet the diverse needs of the student populations to be served.
* The Lake County Workforce Investment Board concurs with these recommendations and forwards them for County Board consideration.
* Contracts are recommended for two in-school youth programs: Zion Benton High School, Jobs for Bees, Zion, Illinois, in the amount of $140,431 to service 22 youth; and Waukegan High School, SHINE Educational Leadership Program, Waukegan, Illinois, in the amount of $150,000 to service 30 youth.
* Contracts are recommended for four out-of-school youth programs: Waukegan High School, Pharmacy Tech Program, Waukegan, Illinois, in the amount of $113,270 to service 20 youth; Youth Build Lake County, North Chicago, Illinois, for $90,000 to service 12 youth; First Institute Training and Management, Inc., Crystal Lake, Illinois, for $150,000 to service 20 youth; and Computer Systems Institute, Gurnee, Illinois, in the amount of $87,500 to serve 10 youth.
* Contracts are not to exceed $731,201 and will be funded through the County's allocation of federal Workforce Investment Act funds.
