Staff Summary
· This is a request to renew the Violent Crime Victims Assistance Act (VCVA) grant administered through the Office of the Illinois Attorney General, with a grant period from July 1, 2012 through June 30, 2013.
· Funding for this grant began in 1990 and has been renewed each year.
· Grant program goals include: to improve domestic violence case management; to assist with the improvement of the Domestic Violence Council’s Response Manual; and to reduce the number of domestic violence cases that result in a “nolle” disposition (prosecution dismisses case with option to re-open) because prosecution is unable to locate the victim.
· The grant will fund $22,230 to offset the salary of a Domestic Violence Victim Witness Counselor (DV Counselor).
· The counselor position and grant is already included in the State’s Attorney’s approved Fiscal Year 2012 budget.

RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, the Office of the Illinois Attorney General has approved the continuation of the State's Attorney’s Violent Crime Victims Assistance Program, and $22,230 was awarded for the time period July 1, 2012 through June 30, 2013; and
WHEREAS, the grant funds of $22,230 for this program will supplement the salary of a full-time Domestic Violence Counselor; and
WHEREAS, funds have already been appropriated in the FY 2012 budget for this Program; and
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, by this County Board of Lake County, Illinois that the Lake County State's Attorney's Violent Crime Victims Assistance Program with the Office of the Illinois Attorney General is hereby authorized; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the State’s Attorney shall serve as project director for the program, and accurate records of all necessary grant compliance requirements shall be kept by th...
