Report regarding alternatives for the County Biosolid Management Program.
Staff Summary
· Currently biosolids processed at the County's water reclamation facilities are applied to farm fields during spring and fall through a contract with Synagro.
· IEPA requirements for biosolid storage and disposal have been amended and a change in operation is necessary.
· The County retained Applied Technologies engineers to evaluate various alternatives for handling and disposal of biosolids to determine the best long term cost-effective method for management of this material.
· Five different alternatives were evaluated and cost effective analyses were completed for a 20-year operation and maintenance period to determine the most appropriate plan.
· The alternatives and recommended regional plan will be reviewed with Committee for discussion and direction.
