Title
Report on the Aqua Illinois rate increase request to the Illinois Commerce Commission.
Staff Summary
• Aqua Illinois submitted a rate increase request to the Illinois Commerce Commission (ICC) on April 6, 2011 to increase the bulk water rate to the County from $2.43 to $3.87 per 1000 gallons, or 59.2 percent.
• A rate increase will impact the Forest Lake and Glennshire Subdivisions.
• The ICC rate review process is in progress and is anticipated to be complete by March 2, 2012.
• The County is aggressively objecting to the increase and retained an attorney to prepare legal documents to be included as an “Intervener” in the case, as well as hired a rate consultant to review documentation on Aqua’s proposed rate increase.
• Letters were sent to customers in Forest Lake and Glennshire advising them of the potential increase.
• Two information meetings were also held to provide residents an opportunity to ask questions and receive information on this matter.
• Director Peter Kolb and the County’s rate consultant will make a presentation to the ICC objecting to the documentation filed by Aqua during a public forum that is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 15, 2011 in the State of Illinois Office Building, 160 N. Lasalle Street, Chicago, Illinois.
