SPECIAL RECOGNITION

WHEREAS, October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month, a national effort to raise awareness of domestic violence, support survivors, and encourage communities to take action to prevent violence and increase safety for survivors and their children; and

WHEREAS, domestic violence affects millions of people across all communities and can have lasting physical, emotional, and financial effects on survivors, children, and families; and

WHEREAS, the 2026 Domestic Violence Awareness Month theme, “With Survivors, Always,” calls on communities to move from awareness to action and stand with survivors this Domestic Violence Awareness Month, and beyond; and

WHEREAS, the Lake County State’s Attorney’s Office’s Domestic Violence Division includes Assistant State’s Attorneys, Victim Specialists, and support staff dedicated to prosecuting crimes of domestic violence, helping victims obtain criminal orders of protection, and connecting survivors with resources and services; and

WHEREAS, the Domestic Violence Division works with local law enforcement agencies and community-based organizations to provide a coordinated response to domestic violence and help keep survivors and families safe; and

WHEREAS, Lake County is piloting a Domestic Violence Fatality Review Team, a program that is working to prevent future domestic violence-related fatalities and to reduce the severity and frequency of domestic violence; and

WHEREAS, Lake County provides resources and connects survivors with community partners that offer legal advocacy, housing, counseling, financial assistance, and other services to help survivors navigate the criminal justice system and beyond; and

WHEREAS, residents can help create safer communities by learning about domestic violence, supporting survivors, and connecting those in need with available resources.
