Special recognition honoring Red Ribbon Week 2022.

SPECIAL RECOGNITION
WHEREAS, communities across the United States have been harmed by the negative effects associated with illicit drug use; and
WHEREAS, preventing drug use and encouraging a drug-free life is an effort every community must make each day with education, advocacy, and behavioral programming; and
WHEREAS, in Lake County and in every community across this country, residents can make significant contributions to their communities through educating youth and encouraging participation in drug prevention activities; and
WHEREAS, the red ribbon is a symbol commemorating the work of Enrique "Kiki" Camarena, a Drug Enforcement Administration agent who was murdered in the line of duty, and represents the belief that one person can make a difference; and
WHEREAS, the Red Ribbon Campaign was established by Congress in 1988 to encourage a healthy, drug-free lifestyle and involvement in drug prevention and reduction efforts; and
WHEREAS, October 23 to October 31 has been designated National Red Ribbon Week, which encourages youth and adults to show their commitment to a healthy, drug-free life by wearing or displaying the Red Ribbon.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RECOGNIZED, by the Lake County Board that Lake County does hereby recognize October 23 to October 31, 2022 as Red Ribbon Week and urges all residents to wear or display the Red Ribbon to show an intolerance for drugs in our schools, work places, and communities.
