Special recognition to Corrections Officer Elvis Fejzic who was named 2020 Correctional Officer of the Year.

SPECIAL RECOGNITION
WHEREAS, Elvis Fejzic joined the Lake County Sheriff's Office as a correctional officer in April 2018; and
WHEREAS, in 2020, CO Fejzic's quick actions successfully saved lives by stopping two inmate suicide attempts; and
WHEREAS, CO Fejzic observed an inmate attempting to choke himself with a bedsheet and immediately took action, entering the inmate's cell and unwrapping the sheet from the inmate's neck; and
WHEREAS, one month later, CO Fejzic located an inmate attempting suicide with a T-shirt in his jail cell, and he and his partner, Corrections Officer Mathew Outinen immediately entered the inmate's cell, cut the shirt off the inmate's neck and administered first aid; and
WHEREAS, CO Fejzic also has been recognized for his thoroughness, preventing numerous items of contraband from entering the interior of the jail; and
WHEREAS, nominated by Sheriff John D. Idleburg for his work, CO Elvis Fejzic was awarded the 2020 Correctional Officer of the Year Award by the Illinois Sheriff's Association; and
WHEREAS, Sheriff Idleburg said the dedication and service-oriented mindset of the County's corrections officers often goes unseen by the community as their heroic actions occur behind closed doors. These men and women work diligently to make a positive impact on those incarcerated and continually participate in efforts to reduce recidivism.
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RECOGNIZED, that this County Board of Lake County, Illinois, hereby recognizes and commends Corrections Officer Elvis Fejzic for his heroic actions interceding and stopping two attempted suicides, and his dedication and service to the Lake County community; and
BE IT FURTHER RECOGNIZED, that the County Board offers its sincere congratulations to Corrections Officer Elvis Fejzic for being named as the 2020 Corrections Officer of the Year by the Illinois Sh...
