Resolution proclaiming the summer of 2010 as “Relay For Life Summer” in Lake County, Illinois.
Body
WHEREAS, the American Cancer Society is the nationwide, community-based, voluntary health organization dedicated to eliminating cancer as a major health problem by preventing cancer, saving lives and diminishing suffering from cancer, through research, education, advocacy and service; and
WHEREAS, Relay For Life is a “Celebration of Life” where we “Celebrate, Remember and Fight Back” and is the American Cancer Society’s nationwide signature activity; and
WHEREAS, the 2010 goal for Relay For Life events in Lake County is $1,251,000; and
WHEREAS, Relay For Life is a community event that celebrates survivors and remembers those who have lost their battle with cancer; and
WHEREAS, because cancer never sleeps, Relay For Life teams spend the night camping out, enjoying music and family activities together, while team members walk around a track relay-style for the duration of this event; and
WHEREAS, Relay For Life events will be held throughout Lake County over the course of the summer as follows: Highland Park/Deerfield on May 15-16; Lake Zurich/Wauconda/Island Lake on June 12-13; Buffalo Grove/Stevenson High School on June 19-20; Greater Waukegan & Far North Shore on June 26-27; Lake Forest/Lake Bluff on June 26-27; Gurnee/Wadsworth on July 10-11; and Grayslake/Round Lake Area on July 17-18; Antioch/Lakes Area July 24-25; and Green Oaks/Libertyville/Mundelein/Vernon Hills on July 31 - August 1. We would also like to recognize the Lake Forest College Relay for Life for their event held April 16-17, and the GLMV Relay For Life for hosting a Youth Relay at the Libertyville Sports Complex on April 24-25, 2010.
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, by this County Board of Lake County, Illinois, that the summer of 2010 be proclaimed “Relay For Life Summer” in Lake County, and we hereby call upon all Lake County residents to recognize the outstanding contribution...
