Special recognition of May 11 through May 17, 2025 as National Police Week.

SPECIAL RECOGNITION
WHEREAS, there are approximately 800,000 law enforcement officers serving in communities throughout the United States, including the dedicated officers of the Lake County Sheriff’s Office; and
WHEREAS, the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund reported 147 law enforcement officers died in the line of duty in 2024; and
WHEREAS, the Officer Down Memorial Page reported 21 K-9 officers died in the line of duty in 2024; and
WHEREAS, since the first recorded death in 1786, more than 24,000 United States law enforcement officers gave their lives in service, the ultimate sacrifice to their community; and
WHEREAS, the names of these dedicated public servants are engraved on the walls of the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial in Washington, D.C.; and
WHEREAS, 345 new names of fallen heroes are being added to the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial this week to recognize the officers killed in 2024, plus officers who died in previous years, including many whose stories of sacrifice had been lost to history until now; and
WHEREAS, we honor and remember the service and sacrifice of all officers killed in the line of duty while protecting and serving our communities; and
WHEREAS, the Annual Lake County Police Memorial to honor fallen officers and their families was held on May 9 in Lincoln Plaza with U.S. flags flown at half-staff.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RECOGNIZED, by this County Board of Lake County, Illinois, that May 11 through May 17, 2025, is designated as National Police Week in Lake County, Illinois; and
BE IT FURTHER RECOGNIZED, that this County Board publicly salutes the service of the officers within Lake County, and in communities throughout the nation.
