Staff Summary
· The Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity has awarded funds under a National Emergency Grant to the Lake County Workforce Development Department in the amount of $200,000 for an On-the-Job Training program.
· On-the-Job training is a method of providing training to a paid trainee while engaged in productive work. This grant will allow 35-50 dislocated workers the opportunity to gain experience while learning a new skill.
· This program will target long-term unemployed individuals in the hardest hit communities during this recession - North Chicago, the Round Lake communities, Waukegan and Zion.
· The grant is for the period of December 1, 2010 to June 30, 2012.
· An emergency appropriation of $200,000 for county fiscal year 2011 is requested to allocate these funds into the Workforce Department’s budget and authorize acceptance of this grant.
