RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, the United States recorded a 16-year high of fatal crashes in 2021, with an estimated 42,915 fatalities; and
WHEREAS, the State of Illinois has seen a 33 percent increase in fatal crashes between 2015 and 2021, including 1,333 in 2021; and
WHEREAS, Lake County recorded 36 fatal crashes in 2021; and
WHEREAS, the SS4A grant program, which invests up to $6 billion over five years to fund local efforts to reduce roadway crashes and fatalities, is currently accepting applications through the USDOT; and
WHEREAS, USDOT is authorized to award $1 billion in SS4A grants in Federal Fiscal Year 2022, pursuant to the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act; and
