Resolution authorizing funding application to the Metropolitan Mayors Caucus (MMC) for Supporting Municipalities for Asylum Seeker Services (SMASS) funding and authorizing execution of all necessary Memoranda of Understanding (MOU) and correspondence.
Staff Summary
• The Metropolitan Mayors Caucus has made $42.5 million available through the Supporting Municipalities for Asylum Seeker Services Notice of Funding Availability with applications due on September 15, 2023.
• Lake County would serve as a funding pass through to increase the capacity of community organizations working with asylum seekers, as defined in the grant opportunity.
• If funding is approved, further Board action will be required to appropriate funding and enter in subrecipient agreements with partner organizations.

RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, the Metropolitan Mayors Caucus has made $42.5 million available through the Supporting Municipalities for Asylum Seeker Services Notice of Funding Availability with applications due on September 15, 2023; and
WHEREAS, Lake County is applying for funds to support the services of community agencies serving asylum seekers, as defined in the grant, requiring Memoranda of Understanding.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, by this County Board of Lake County,
Illinois, that the Chair of the Lake County Board or their designee is hereby
authorized to execute the necessary documentation to submit the grant application.
