SPECIAL RECOGNITION
WHEREAS, Lake County joins the nation to recognize June as National Caribbean American Heritage Month; and
WHEREAS, Caribbean Americans strengthen the community through their vibrant cultures, languages, and traditions; and
WHEREAS, Caribbean Americans have contributed greatly to education, fine arts, business, literature, journalism, sports, fashion, politics, government, the military, music, science, technology, and other areas in the United States; and
WHEREAS, Caribbean Americans have played an active role in the civil rights movement, and many other social and political movements in the United States; and
WHEREAS, Lake County pays tribute to the generations of Caribbean Americans who have enriched America’s history and are instrumental in its future success; and
WHEREAS, we celebrate and honor Caribbean American’s contributions to strengthen the nation and the Lake County community.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RECOGNIZED, that the Lake County Board of Lake County, Illinois does hereby observe June 2023 as Caribbean American Heritage Month and encourages all residents to reflect on and share their contributions, successes, and challenges through our history.
