SPECIAL RECOGNITION
WHEREAS, National Voter Registration Day is a nonpartisan event celebrating our democracy in the United States. First observed in 2012, it has quickly gained momentum ever since. Nearly three million voters have registered to vote during the event to date; and
WHEREAS, celebrated on the fourth Tuesday of September, National Voter Registration Day will next take place on September 22, 2020. The holiday has been endorsed by the National Association of Secretaries of State (NASS), the National Association of State Election Directors (NASED), the U.S. Election Assistance Commission (EAC), and the National Association of Election Officials (The Election Center); and
WHEREAS, National Voter Registration Day is a day of civic unity. It's an opportunity to set aside differences, enjoy the rights and opportunities we all share as Americans and celebrate our democracy; and
WHEREAS, registering to vote is the entry to the civic right and responsibility of voting; and
WHEREAS, being registered to vote enables residents to use such conveniences as vote by mail; and
WHEREAS, National Voter Registration Day celebrates and encourages this fundamental process; and
WHEREAS, the difficulties surrounding the pandemic have made traditional voter registration events unworkable; and
WHEREAS, the Lake County Board encourages all who are eligible to register to vote.

WHEREAS, voter registration is available online or in person at the County Clerk's office or at early voting polling places or on Election Day itself.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RECOGNIZED, that the Lake County Board joins the League of Women Voters in supporting National Voter Registration Day (September 22) and encourages all Lake County residents to register and to exercise their right to vote.
