Resolution declaring that the number of appeals filed with the Board of Review has created an emergency situation and has caused a need for an expanded Board of Review; and authorizing the Chairman of the Board to appoint additional qualified members to the Board of Review.
Staff Summary
· This is an annual practice.
· The resolution recognizes that the three members of the Board of Review need additional assistance to complete the 2008 tax year hearings.
· There are sixteen qualified individuals who have passed the Board of Review qualifying exam or have served regularly as alternate members.
· The Chair will be asked to appoint alternate members.
Body
WHEREAS, Illinois Law (35 ILCS 200/6-25) provides that the County Board may appoint by Resolution additional qualified members to the Board of Review to hear appeals under specific circumstances; and
WHEREAS, the Clerk of the Board of Review has suggested that the number of appeals filed with the Lake County Board of Review has created the need for an expanded Board of Review to hear said appeals; and
WHEREAS, the County Board must declare that said number of appeals constitutes an emergency situation causing the need for this expanded Board of Review; and
WHEREAS, under this situation, the Chairman of the Board may appoint additional qualified members to the Board of Review.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, by this County Board of Lake County, Illinois, that the number of appeals filed with the Board of Review has created an emergency situation and has caused a need for an expanded Board of Review through May 31, 2009; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the said additional members for an expanded Board of Review shall be the persons appointed by the Chairman of the Board from the list of people qualified by virtue of their having passed the State Board of Review examination and as recommended from time-to-time by the Clerk of the Board of Review; and
