On April 24, 2024, the LCHD Communicable Disease Team of Dr. Sana Ahmed, Kelly Donley, and Yves Helou received the David Baker Award for Excellence in Integrating Public Health and Infection Control at the Illinois Department of Public Health's Emerging Stronger: 2024 Illinois Infectious Disease Conference. The award is in recognition of outstanding contributions and unwavering commitment to the advancement of infection prevention and disease control strategies and noted that the CD Team’s dedication to protecting the health of the most vulnerable, especially those living in congregate settings, embodies the spirit of the award and the work to which David was dedicated. The award is in memory of David Baker, an infection control expert who worked in the IDPH Communicable Disease Section and who was passionate about protecting the most vulnerable Illinois residents, especially veterans.
