Resolution to accept local technical assistance from the Chicago Metropolitan Agency for Planning (CMAP) for developing a sustainability chapter for the Regional Framework Plan.

Staff Summary
· A goal of Lake County’s Strategic Plan is to “promote a sustainable environment”.
· The County Board accepted the “Promoting Sustainable Development Practices in Lake County” report in December 2011.
· CMAP applied for federal funding through the Sustainable Communities Regional Planning grant program, to provide assistance to local governments that advance the implementation of GO TO 2040 through the Local Technical Assistance program.
· To implement Sustainable Development Practices, the Planning, Building and Development Department (PBD) applied for and was awarded Local Technical Assistance from CMAP in March 2011 to assist with the development of a sustainability chapter update to the Regional Framework Plan.
· CMAP has submitted a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) attached with a Scope of work and a timeline to define the work to be done in tandem with the Regional Planning Commission and PB&D staff.
· Staff recommends that the Planning, Building and Zoning Committee forward the attached resolution in support of the MOU to the County Board for approval.

WHEREAS, the Lake County Board accepted the “Promoting Sustainable Development Practices in Lake County” report in December 2011.

WHEREAS, Lake County recognizes the GO TO 2040 Plan as the long-range regional comprehensive plan for the seven-county Chicago region, encompassing Cook, DuPage, Kane, Kendall, Lake, McHenry and Will counties; and
