Title
Resolution authorizing a lease extension of an additional one-year lease term with Michael Henningfield, McHenry, Illinois, in the amount of $4,500 for lease of County property for farming.
Staff Summary
* Lake County desires to enter into a lease extension of an additional one-year lease term for the sole intention of farming on the County farm property of approximately 45 tillable acres in Libertyville, Illinois.
* Pursuant to Illinois Statutes (55 ILCS 5/5-1005) the County Board has authority to make all contracts and do all other acts in relation to property to exercise its corporate power, including to sell and convey or lease any real or personal property owned by the County.
* Since 2013, the County has been farming alfalfa on the site based on the minimal short-term disturbance of soils, from an ecological and land management perspective, and the overall reduction in application of chemicals and fertilizers once the crop is established.
* As a result, the farmland has a "green" look year-round, blowing soils have been reduced, and a natural barrier is created to limit blowing and drifting snow in winter months. The use of the farmland is in accordance with the natural area management practices on the Central Permit Facility's grounds.
* A one-year lease will result in an annual revenue of $4,500.
