Special recognition of May 18 through May 24, 2025 as Emergency Medical Services Week.

SPECIAL RECOGNITION
WHEREAS, Emergency Medical Services (EMS) is a vital public service that provides lifesaving medical care to those in need at a moment’s notice, 24 hours a day, seven days a week; and
WHEREAS, access to quality emergency care dramatically improves the survival and recovery rate of those who experience sudden illness or injury; and
WHEREAS, EMS has grown to fill a gap by providing important out-of-hospital care, including preventative medicine, follow-up care, and access to telemedicine; and
WHEREAS, the EMS system consists of first responders, emergency medical technicians, paramedics, emergency medical dispatchers, firefighters, law enforcement officers, air medical clinicians, educators, administrators, pre-hospital nurses, emergency nurses, emergency physicians, trained members of the public, and other out-of-hospital medical care providers; and
WHEREAS, career or volunteer EMS team members engage in thousands of hours of specialized training and continued education to maintain and enhance their lifesaving skills; and
WHEREAS, members of EMS teams work selflessly to serve their communities in critical and often stressful and hazardous situations; and
WHEREAS, it’s important to educate the public about EMS and the essential services EMS provides to appropriately recognize their value and contributions to their communities.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RECOGNIZED, by this County Board of Lake County, Illinois, that the week of May 18 through May 24, 2025, is Emergency Medical Services Week; and
BE IT FURTHER RECOGNIZED, that this year's theme of Emergency Medical Services Week is “We Care for Everyone.” The community is encouraged to take a moment to appreciate and say thank you to the unsung heroes who respond to emergencies, save lives, and make a difference every day.
