SPECIAL RECOGNITION
WHEREAS, Emergency Medical Services (EMS) is a vital public service; and
WHEREAS, EMS teams are ready to provide lifesaving care to those in need 24 hours a day, seven days a week; and
WHEREAS, access to quality emergency care dramatically improves the survival and recovery rate of those who experience sudden illness or injury; and
WHEREAS, EMS has grown to fill a gap. They provide important out of hospital care, including preventative medicine, follow-up care, and access to telemedicine; and
WHEREAS, the EMS system consists of first responders, emergency medical technicians, paramedics, emergency medical dispatchers, firefighters, police officers, educators, administrators, pre-hospital nurses, emergency nurses, emergency physicians, trained members of the public, and other out of hospital medical care providers; and
WHEREAS, EMS team members, whether career or volunteer, engage in thousands of hours of specialized training and continued education to enhance their lifesaving skills; and
WHEREAS, members of EMS teams work selflessly to serve their communities in critical and often times stressful and hazardous situations; and
WHEREAS, it’s important to educate the public about EMS, and the essential services they provide to appropriately recognize their value and contributions to communities.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RECOGNIZED, by this County Board of Lake County, Illinois, that the week of May 19 through May 25, 2024, is Emergency Medical Services Week; and
BE IT FURTHER RECOGNIZED, that the theme of the 50th Anniversary of Emergency Medical Services Week is Honoring Our Past. Forging Our Future. The community is encouraged to take a moment to appreciate and say thank you to the unsung heroes who respond to emergencies, save lives and make a difference every day.
