Staff Summary

                     Deerfield Road Bike Path from Saunders Road to Wilmot Road: Change Order No. 10.

                     Change orders need to be approved by the standing committees for cumulative net increases over 10%.

                     The Deerfield Road Bike Path project is under contract at unit prices originally totaling $2,143,834.73.

                     This change order #10 is an increase of $81,254.33 and is a pre-final balancing change order for field measurements of completed work.

                     The major cost with earlier change orders was mainly due to the re-design of 4 walls that are part of the tunnel under the Tollway ramp.  The original bid material, small modular block, was later found to be limited only to wall heights of 7’ or less due to IDOT policies.  For this project’s taller walls of about 14’, LCDOT changed the wall material to a heavy block material to comply. 

                     Several other field changes to address unforeseen circumstances contributed as well.  Many of these addressed safety concerns such as adding a truck detour so long vehicles did not have to negotiate the tight conditions on the Tollway ramp during construction.

                     Summary:  original awarded contract was bid as unit prices and estimated quantities for $2,143,834.73; change Order No. 1-9 was $212,265.32; change order No. 10 is $81,254.33.  Sum of all changes is $293,519.65.
