Staff Summary
·      2013 Traffic Signal Equipment Upgrade: Appropriation.
·      The County maintains 164 traffic signals, and various pieces of equipment, which annually need to be replaced and upgraded.
·      The 2013 work concentrates on upgrading existing traffic signal heads to LED, and installing UPS at a maximum of 14 intersections.
·      Before a project letting can be held, an appropriation of $120,000 of Motor Fuel Tax funds is necessary.

R E S O L U T I O N
 
WHEREAS, in order to reduce the consumption of electricity in traffic control signals and to reduce occurrences of "dark" traffic signal indications, the Division of Transportation is undertaking a project to install LED and UPS at various signalized intersections throughout the County highway system; and
 
WHEREAS, a survey of traffic control signals at 14 intersections throughout the County highway system for said LED and UPS installation has been completed.
 
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED by this Lake County Board, that there is hereby appropriated $120,000 of Motor Fuel Tax funds for the 2013 traffic signal equipment project to upgrade existing traffic signal heads to LED, and install UPS at a maximum of 14 intersections, and designated as Section 13-00000-11-GM.
 
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this appropriation be processed by the County Engineer for final approval of the Illinois Department of Transportation in accordance with the "Agreement of Understanding" between the Illinois Department of Transportation and Lake County, dated January 18, 2013.
