Joint resolution supporting and authorizing a grant application to, and potential award from, the US Department of Justice’s Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention (OJJDP), for a Gang Prevention Coordination Services grant in an amount up to $200,000, with no matching funds required.

Staff Summary

                     This program will facilitate a comprehensive strategic plan to combat gangs and allows for a centralized coordination of anti-gang efforts between school officials, school resource officers, law enforcement, municipal officials, community-based social service providers, residents of affected communities and religious institutions.

                     The grant will fully fund one Gang Prevention Coordinator for 24 months, potentially beginning October 2009.

RESOLUTION

                     WHEREAS, the Lake County State’s Attorney’s Office is preparing a grant application for a Gang Prevention Coordination Assistance Program, and may be awarded up to $200,000 in federal funds to plan and implement a comprehensive anti-gang plan; and

 

                     WHEREAS, the grant will fully fund the hiring of a Gang Prevention Coordinator housed in the State’s Attorney’s Office for 24 months; and

 

                     WHEREAS, the grant program will facilitate partnerships between officials in all sectors and facets of gang prevention, intervention and enforcement;

                     

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, by this County Board of Lake County, Illinois, that the State’s Attorney’s Office application for the Gang Prevention Coordinator Grant, from the USDOJ OJP Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention is hereby authorized and supported.
