Joint resolution authorizing execution of an agreement for professional engineering services with Applied Technologies for design of the Portwine Lift Station Parallel Force Main Project.

Staff Summary
· Increased sewer flows to the Portwine Lift Station requires additional pumping capacity from that station which will be enabled by the construction of a second, parallel, forcemain. Plans and specifications for this work must be prepared by a qualified engineering firm.
· Four engineering firms were selected to submit qualifications for the route selection study and force main design work and Applied Technologies was chosen to provide the preliminary engineering design and route selection study.
· Based on staff evaluation of the successful performance of the preliminary engineering and route selection study, Applied Technologies of Lake Villa, IL was again determined to be the most qualified firm for the final engineering design and construction related services and a scope of services was negotiated for the project.
· Committee authorization is requested to execute an agreement for professional engineering services with Applied Technologies in the amount of $166,988 for the design and drawing preparation of the Portwine Lift Station Parallel Force Main Project charging the cost thereof to Account Number 610-4854252-71170-48310.

WHEREAS, the County of Lake owns, operates and maintains sanitary sewer collection systems, interceptor sewers, lift stations and associated force mains servicing areas in West Deerfield and Vernon Townships; and

WHEREAS, increase of the sanitary sewer flows to the Portwine Lift Station requires additional pumping capacity from that station that will be enabled by the construction of a second parallel force main which require engineering plans and specifications be prepared by a qualified engineering firm.; and
