STD/HIV Program Recognized by Alexian Brothers The Harbor - Mays

On Saturday, August 23rd, Alexian Brothers The Harbor will celebrate its 10 year anniversary at their annual Garden Party. A part of the celebration will be the presentation of three community partnership awards for commitment and outstanding service to the community.
This year, one of the recipients of the award will be the Lake County Health Department and Community Health Center’s STD/HIV Program. Brian Bongner, Program Coordinator for the STD/HIV Program will be attending the Garden Party to represent the program and Health Department.
Over the past year, Brian and his staff have worked closely with the administration at The Harbor developing implementing programming that is relevant to the residents, which has built an excellent collaborative partnership. Support groups, individualized health education/risk reduction counseling, and Comprehensive Risk Counseling Services are among the services offered by the STD/HIV Program to The Harbor residents. It has been reported and observed that quality of life for many of the residents has improved due to these direct services. Compliance with medical regimens and reported level of health has also improved.
Residents from The Harbor helped with the planning and distribution of flyers for the National HIV Testing Day on May 27th. Conversations and planning have already begun about World AIDS Day 2008 between the two organizations to continue this collaborative partnership.
