SPECIAL RECOGNITION
WHEREAS, Lake County’s strength is rooted in our people and their diversity, and all sexual orientations, genders, races, religions, countries of origin, incomes and all who live, work, and enjoy Lake County are welcome here; and
WHEREAS, Celebrate Diversity Month was created to recognize and celebrate everyone’s unique cultures, backgrounds and traditions in all aspects of our lives and our communities; and
WHEREAS, people of all backgrounds contribute to our democracy while strengthening our communities and culture; and
WHEREAS, recognizing and respecting each other’s differences plus our similarities helps Lake County residents achieve a deeper understanding of each other and a greater appreciation for our diversity; and
WHEREAS, there are many ways to celebrate diversity in your community, such as attending a cultural event, reading a book or watching a documentary about a different culture or their history, playing music from around the world, trying food from a different country and supporting minority-owned businesses; and
WHEREAS, Lake County stands against any physical or verbal attacks, harassment, or disrespect toward people’s identities, experiences and beliefs.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RECOGNIZED, by this County Board, of Lake County, Illinois that August 2024 be observed as Celebrate Diversity Month. We encourage all residents to celebrate our great diversity and affirm Lake County to be a welcoming community for all.
