Staff Summary

·      The Trade Adjustment Assistance (TAA) grant modifications of $113,902.29 includes funds to pay tuition, fees and books for individuals impacted by TAA certified layoff events and costs associated with processing the payments.

·      The grant modification will service an additional nine participants.

·      The grants cover the program periods through September 30, 2014.

Body

WHEREAS, The Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity has accepted and provided grant modifications to the TAA Grants totaling $113,902.29 to the Lake County Workforce Development Department; and,

WHEREAS, these grants cover the program periods from January 1, 2012 to September 30, 2014, to provide services to individuals impacted by 22 layoff events certified under the Trade Adjustment Assistance Act; and

WHEREAS, this funding is expected to cover direct training costs for an additional nine individuals impacted from TAA certified layoff events and payment processing costs; and

WHEREAS, a CFY'13 emergency appropriation of $113,902.29 is requested to allocate these funds into the Workforce Department's county fiscal year 2013 budget and authorize acceptance of this grant.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, by this County Board of Lake County, Illinois, that a CFY'13 emergency appropriation in the amount of $113,902.29 for the Workforce Development Department is hereby approved and that the Trade Adjustment Act Grants modifications are accepted. A chart of accounts is attached.
