Joint resolution authorizing the application, acceptance, and emergency appropriation of a 2012 Justice Assistance Grant (JAG) in the amount of $5,638 for the purpose of enhancing our capacity to provide awareness and education to schools, citizen groups, victims and witnesses of crime, law enforcement, and entire communities.
Staff Summary
· This is an application for the federal Justice Assistant Grant Program. This funding supports a broad range of activities to prevent and control crime and to improve the criminal justice system.
· Under this program, the City of Waukegan and the County of Lake on behalf of the Lake County State’s Attorney’s Office are eligible for a joint award of $28,189 in FFY2012 grant funds.
· The potential allocation of the eligible funds is $5,638 to the County of Lake on behalf of the State’s Attorney’s Office and $22,551 to the City of Waukegan.
· The State’s Attorney’s Office will use the $5,638 to enhance a community awareness effort.
· The source of program funding is 100% federal JAG. No match is required.
· The program funds allocated to the State’s Attorney’s Office will support purchase of presentation supplies, brochure stands, carts and program storage cabinets.

RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, the County of Lake on behalf of the Lake County State’s Attorney’s Office and the City of Waukegan has applied for an Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant that provides grant monies to local governments to support a broad range of activities to prevent and control crime and to improve the criminal justice system; and
WHEREAS, the Lake County State’s Attorney’s Office will use this funding to enhance a community awareness effort; and
WHEREAS, Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant is in the amount of $5,638, and it is necessary to appropriate this amount; and
