Continuation of the State’s Attorney’s Prosecutor-Based Victim Services grant program (agreement #207177) with $54,578 in federal funds awarded by the Illinois Criminal Justice Information Authority.
Staff Summary
· This is a renewal of the Prosecutor Based Victim Services program, a grant administered through the Illinois Criminal Justice Information Authority. Funding for this grant began in 1991 and has been renewed each year; for this year the period is October 1, 2009 through September 30, 2010.
· Though funding allocated to the State of Illinois for distribution to Prosecutor Based Victim Services programs in FY2008 had been reduced by over 20%, the 2009 American Reinvestment and Recovery Act (ARRA) stimulus funding has increased funding by 17% of the FY2008 amount.
· Program goals include: (1) developing and implementing comprehensive services and support related to the criminal justice system that address the needs of Spanish-speaking victims and witnesses; (2) encouraging the involvement and presence of Spanish-speaking violent crime victims during court proceedings; educating and informing them on the court process & procedures while providing emotional support; and provide them with direct services; (3) accompanying Spanish-speaking victims to court and keeping them informed of the defendant’s status, providing assistance with completing compensation claims, and providing appropriate referrals to Spanish-speaking victims as necessary.
· Total Grant budget is based on 92% of the Spanish-speaking Victim Witness Counselor’s time and salary: it includes $54,578 in federal funds (80% of the grant requirement) and $13,645 in matching funds (20% of grant program budget as required by the grant), and $10 in overmatching funds for a total of $68,233.
