Resolution recognizing the League of Women Voters of Lake County for their 40 years of service to the residents of Lake County.

PROCLAMATION
WHEREAS the League of Women Voters is a nonpartisan political organization that encourages informed and active participation in government, works to increase understanding of major public policy issues and influences public policy through education and advocacy; and
WHEREAS the League of Women Voters establishes positions on public policy through member participation and agreement and takes action on those policies consistent with League positions; and
WHEREAS the League of Women Voters of Lake County (LWVLC) was formed in February of 1970, by the seven local Leagues of Lake County to consider issues of countywide concern; and
WHEREAS the LWVLC regularly sponsors candidate forums for municipal, county, state and federal offices; and
WHEREAS, the LWVLC has worked with the Lake County Clerk's office and county high schools to register new voters; and
WHEREAS, the LWVLC has studied issues involving transportation, criminal justice, juvenile justice, land and water use, waste management, immigration, health care, and Lake County government and has provided public programs and worked with our elected representatives at the county, state, and federal levels on many of these issues; and
WHEREAS the LWVLC works in conjunction with other organizations in Lake County on issues of common concern; and
WHEREAS the LWVLC initiated the Lake County Kid's First Health Fair which provided schools supplies and medical checkups for thousands of children and sponsored it for 14 years.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, by this County Board of Lake County, Illinois, that we do hereby recognize and commend the League of Women Voters of Lake County for its 40 years of voter education and service to the residents of Lake County.
