Resolution honoring the 50th Anniversary of the Clean Water Act.

RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, on October 18, 1972, Congress passed the Federal Water Pollution Control Act, a primary federal law in the United States, governing water pollution; and
WHEREAS, through amendatory legislation, the informal, title of the federal law is Clean Water Act; and
WHEREAS, this federal law was enacted to restore and maintain the physical, chemical, and biological integrity of the nation’s waters; and
WHEREAS, it is the responsibility of each individual state to adopt measures to ensure the safety and integrity of their water; through state and federal partnerships; and
WHEREAS, after five decades of Clean Water Act implementation, there is a clear and evident, transformational progress, including a reduction in direct pollution discharge, an improvement in water quality, replacement of deteriorating water mains, building separate stormwater sewers to prevent sewage discharge, and an assurance of water storage for fire protection; and
WHEREAS, Lake County is proud to recognize and support the Clean Water Act.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Clean Water Act continues to be endorsed by the Lake County Board; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Lake County Board will continue to partner with all levels of government - federal, state, and local, to improve the quality of our water resources for all of Lake County.
