• Illinois Public Act 102-0699 was adopted in 2022 and states that the salary of a sheriff elected in a non-home rule county shall not be less than 80 percent of the salary set for the State’s Attorney for the county in which the sheriff is elected.
• It is expected that for the upcoming fiscal year, the Sheriff’s current salary, established by the Lake County Board, will be less than 80 percent of the salary of the State’s Attorney.
• This item amends the ongoing Sheriff’s annual salary to ensure state law is being followed.
• The Lake County Sheriff’s salary will be set annually to 80% of the salary of the Lake County State’s Attorney - which is set by the State of Illinois. Based on current State’s Attorney salary information, the Sheriff’s new salary will be $175,460 for the year beginning July 1, 2025.

RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, Illinois Law provides that the County Board shall fix the compensation of Countywide elected officials; and
WHEREAS, Illinois Public Act 102-0699 was adopted in 2022 and states that the salary of a sheriff elected in a non-home rule county shall not be less than 80 percent of the salary set for the State’s Attorney for the county in which the sheriff is elected; and
WHEREAS, it is expected that for the pending fiscal year, the Sheriff’s current salary, established by the Lake County Board, will be less than 80 percent of the salary of the State’s Attorney; and
WHEREAS, the salary needs to be amended for the Sheriff by the Lake County Board to ensure current state laws are being followed.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, by this County Board of Lake County, Illinois, that effective July 1, 2025, the annual salary for the Lake County Sheriff shall be 80 percent of the salary set for the Lake County States Attorney or $166,060, whichever is greater.
