Staff Summary
• The MMC has made $9.5 million available through the SMASS Notice of Funding Availability with applications due on August 5, 2024.
• Lake County would serve as a funding pass through to increase the capacity of community organizations working with asylum seekers, as defined in the grant opportunity.
• Funding would support shelter, food, legal, and healthcare services for people experiencing homelessness and/or new arrivals.
• If funding is approved, further Board action will be required to appropriate funding and enter into subrecipient agreements with partner organizations.

RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, the Metropolitan Mayors Caucus has made $9.5 million available through the Supporting Municipalities for Asylum Seeker Services Notice of Funding Availability with applications due on August 5, 2024; and
WHEREAS, Lake County has applied for funds to support the services of community agencies serving people experiencing homelessness and/or asylum seekers, as defined in the grant; and
WHEREAS, if funding is approved, further Board action will be required to appropriate funding and enter into subrecipient agreements with partner organizations.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, by this County Board of Lake County, Illinois, that the Chair of the Lake County Board or their designee is hereby authorized to execute the necessary documentation to submit the grant application.
