Special recognition commending the Lake County Auxiliary Deputy Unit for their dedicated and invaluable service to the Lake County Sheriff's Office and the residents of Lake County.

SPECIAL RECOGNITION
WHEREAS, in the late 1970’s, concerned residents organized neighborhood patrols to notify the Sheriff’s Office of suspicious activity; and
WHEREAS, soon after, the residents requested to merge into one group and to be deputized by the Lake County Sheriff; and
WHEREAS, in 1978, 16 members were sworn in as the first Reserve Deputies of Lake County; and
WHEREAS, today, the Auxiliary Deputy Unit consists of up to 50 dedicated members who perform a valuable service to the Lake County Community by volunteering their time to augment the Sheriff’s Office during emergencies, for traffic and crowd control, searches for missing persons, crime scene evidence searches, and assisting local municipal police department and charitable organization functions; and
WHEREAS, Auxiliary Deputy recruits initially receive approximately 145 hours of training over a five to six-month period, with refresher training on a yearly basis; and
WHEREAS, the men and women who volunteer as Auxiliary Deputies have a deep sense of community responsibility and, last year, Auxiliary Deputies worked over 12,550 hours, which equates to over half a million dollars in salary.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RECOGNIZED, by the County Board of Lake County, Illinois, of the many efforts and contributions of the Lake County Sheriff’s Auxiliary Deputy Unit; and
BE IT FURTHER RECOGNIZED, that the Lake County Board does hereby commend the Lake County Auxiliary Deputy Unit for their dedicated and invaluable service to the Lake County Sheriff's Office and the residents of Lake County.
