Staff Summary
* On May 13, 2014 the Lake County Board authorized a contract with Health Management Associates, Chicago, Illinois, to provide support for the healthcare services for the Lake County Jail.
* Health Management Associates (HMA) was retained by the Sheriff's Office in October 2013 to provide subject matter expertise in review of the proposals submitted for the County's inmate and juvenile healthcare services, and again in January 2014 to provide a review of policies and procedures as it relates to inmate healthcare during the recent transition of inmate healthcare providers.
* Due to a staff vacancy, HMA was retained to assist in the transition of the inmate healthcare provider and serve as the interim health services coordinator.
* As transitioning jail health services has been challenging, additional contracted expertise is needed to fully transition to the new medical vendor.
* Change Order No. 1 provides additional funds, on a time and material basis, for HMA to provide additional oversight, transition and training of the newly hired Director of Health Services for Lake County.
* There was an initial contract savings of $300,000 that was transferred to the General County Contingency - Medical Fees, and these funds will be utilized for this work.
* Change Order No. 1 is in the amount not to exceed amount of $125,000, increasing the previous contract amount from $150,000 to $275,000.
