Credentialing and Privileging of Susan Felsenthal, M.D. and Pedro Cruz, M.D. - Schanding

We are recommending the credentialing and privileging of these two individuals. In completing this task, members must apply and inform us of any concerns or issues since the last application. We have reviewed their licenses with the Department of Professional Regulation for current or pending issues. We have submitted the physician names to the American Medical Association and the National Practitioners Data Bank for review of current or pending issues. There are no current outstanding issues in either databank. Finally we reviewed their status relative to board certification.
The purpose of credentialing and privileging is to assure that these independent practitioners have the background and knowledge to essentially work without supervision. In our settings, there are more checks and balances than, say, in a hospital where physicians have admitting privileges. There is, however, more autonomy for these staff member than for the majority of our staff who are routinely supervised. Thus, our governing body and Behavioral Health Services Administration must periodically review backgrounds and abilities.
SUSAN FELSENTHHAL, MD
Dr. Felsenthhal is board certified in internal medicine. She is privileged through Primary Care Services, where the majority of her work is done. She is periodically on-call for the Addictions Treatment Program, and in this capacity we are seeking Board approval for her joining the medical staff. Dr. Felsenthhal graduated from Chicago Medical School in 1977 and did internship and residency at Cook County Hospital
She has no adverse liability, criminal actions, medical, mental health or substance abuse issues reported. There are no sanctions reported to the AMA, no malpractice history, no other or current adverse actions per Data Bank. She is board certified in internal medicine.
