Staff Summary
· The Limited English Proficiency Plan is intended to meet the legal obligations of Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964.
· The plan demonstrates the County's commitment to provide meaningful access to all County services regardless of an individual's national origin or limited ability to speak, read, write or understand English.
· The plan includes analysis of need, assistance options that are available and a complaint resolution procedure.
Body
WHEREAS, Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 requires that reasonable steps be taken to provide meaningful access to County services regardless of national origin or the ability to speak, read, write or understand English; and
WHEREAS, this Limited English Proficiency (LEP) Plan was developed using guidelines issued by numerous Federal Departments; and
WHEREAS, Lake County departments vary in their interaction with LEP individuals; and
WHEREAS, Lake County is committed to taking reasonable steps to provide various language assistance services to those in need.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, by this County Board of Lake County, Illinois, that the adoption of a Limited English Proficiency Plan is hereby authorized.
