Staff Summary
* The $1,000,000 Illinois Department of Public Health grant will be used to fund four new positions, supplies, contractual, and indirect services.
* The purpose of this funding is to help monitor respiratory diseases and prevent transmission and severe disease outcomes through the continuation of response efforts and activities within local communities.
* The $1,000,000 in additional grant funding has not been previously appropriated because the grant resources were secured after the County's adoption of the Fiscal Year 2024 budget.
* The grant award will be for the period July 1, 2024, through June 30, 2026.
* If grant funding for the services and positions end, and new funding is not secured, the services will be eliminated.

RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, the Lake County Health Department and Community Health Center has received a grant increase delivered by our Prevention Unit; and
WHEREAS, these dollars will provide a legitimate increase in services to Lake County with no impact on local taxes; and
WHEREAS, this grant will be used for four new positions that will be eliminated if or when this grant's funding is no longer available and no other funding source outside of property tax dollars has been identified; and
WHEREAS, this grant amount totaling $1,000,000 has not been previously appropriated, having been awarded after adoption of the Fiscal Year 2024 budget; and
WHEREAS, the proposed appropriation will be fully offset by the above referenced items thereby not requiring the expenditure of local tax revenue.
