Staff Summary
· In October 2008 the County Board executed an intergovernmental agreement with the City of North Chicago for a Brownfield Grant for up to $100,000 for clean-up activities at the Northwest Corner of Sheridan Road and Martin Luther King Drive in order to redevelop the downtown area.
· To date, the County has reimbursed the City $68,000 for remediation activities performed under this grant.
· The Resolution would authorize an amendment to the intergovernmental agreement with North Chicago to extend the timeframe for the City to request reimbursement of the remaining $32,000 in Brownfield Funds from October 2009 until October 2010.

RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, Lake County and the City of North Chicago entered into an Intergovernmental Agreement in October 2008 whereby the County agreed to provide the City up to $100,000 in matching funds for environmental cleanup activities at the Northwest Corner of Sheridan Road and Martin Luther King Drive in order to redevelop the downtown area in North Chicago, Illinois; and

WHEREAS, under the terms of the Intergovernmental Agreement, the City agreed to submit a request for the reimbursement of funds within one (1) year of the effective date of the Intergovernmental Agreement; and

WHEREAS, the City has requested that the timeframe of the Intergovernmental Agreement be extended for an additional six (6) months beyond the expiration of the original agreement to allow the City to complete work on the project; and

WHEREAS, the Intergovernmental Agreement states that it may be amended by mutual agreement, signed, and executed with the same formality with which it was originally executed.
