Special recognition commending the Lake County Auxiliary Deputy Unit for their dedicated and valuable service to the Lake County Sheriff's Office and the residents of Lake County.

SPECIAL RECOGNITION
WHEREAS, in the late 1970s, concerned citizens took initiative to patrol their neighborhoods and report suspicious activity to the Lake County Sheriff's Office; and
WHEREAS, shortly thereafter, these citizens formally requested to unite as a single group and be deputized to enhance their service to the community; and
WHEREAS, in 1978, sixteen individuals were sworn in as the first Reserve Deputies of Lake County, marking the establishment of what is now known as the Auxiliary Deputy Unit; and
WHEREAS, today the Lake County Auxiliary Deputy Unit is comprised of up to 50 dedicated volunteers who provide critical support to the Sheriff's Office and communities throughout Lake County; and
WHEREAS, these Auxiliary Deputies contribute their time and expertise during natural and man-made emergencies, assist with traffic and crowd control, participate in searches for missing persons, conduct crime scene evidence searches, and support local municipal police departments as well as charitable and community events; and
WHEREAS, each Auxiliary Deputy recruit undergoes approximately 145 hours of initial training over a five- to six-month period, with annual refresher courses in key areas to maintain operational readiness; and
WHEREAS, these men and women serve out of a deep sense of civic duty, collectively contributing 13,312.5 volunteer hours in the past year-an effort valued at approximately $692,250 in equivalent salary.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RECOGNIZED, that the Lake County Board formally acknowledges and commends the Lake County Sheriff's Auxiliary Deputy Unit for their outstanding dedication, selfless service, and invaluable contributions to the safety and well-being of the residents of Lake County, Illinois.
