Joint resolution authorizing the acceptance of a grant award in the amount of $135,259.92 for a Sustained Traffic Enforcement Program (STEP) from the Illinois Department of Transportation.

Staff Summary
* This is a Sustained Traffic Enforcement Program grant which covers the time period of October 1, 2014 through September 30, 2015.
* The grant covers a portion of the expenses related to the enforcement of Driving Under the Influence (DUI) patrols and roadblocks.
* For this grant program, we anticipate conducting the enforcement campaigns during the weeks of Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year's, Superbowl, St. Patrick's Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, and Labor Day.
o Grant funds overtime necessary to hireback four deputies and one command in fully marked squad cars for each roadblock.
o Run the DUI patrol/roadblocks during times of high crash incidents, from 11:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m., locations to be determined.

Body
WHEREAS, the Illinois Department of Transportation has notified the Lake County Sheriff that a Sustained Traffic Enforcement Program (STEP) has been awarded for the time period of October 1, 2014 through September 30, 2015; and

WHEREAS, the Lake County Sheriff will provide DUI patrols and roadblocks; and

WHEREAS, the grant must be formally accepted by the County of Lake and the necessary appropriations and approvals made.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, by this County Board of Lake County, Illinois, that the acceptance of the Illinois Department of Transportation Sustained Traffic Enforcement Program in the amount of $135,259.92 for the period beginning October 1, 2014 through September 30, 2015, is hereby accepted; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Chairman of the Board, the Lake County Sheriff, and the Lake County Treasurer are hereby authorized to execute the necessary documentation in order to accept the grant (grant program agreement to be attached hereto and hereby made a part of this resoluti...
