Staff Summary
· Renewal of the federal Juvenile Accountability Block Grant, administered through the Illinois Criminal Justice Information Authority an on-going program from the Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention (OJJDP).
· The grant program staffs two additional prosecutors and allows greater focus on violent juvenile offender prosecutions, and the reduction of overall case backlog. This program assigns all violent crime cases, which include domestic relations and weapons, to a specific ASA, for case handling from arraignment through sentencing.
· Funding for this grant began in 1999 and has been renewed each year. Program funding consists of $24,334 in grant funds, $2,704 in matching funds from the State’s Attorney’s Asset Forfeiture Fund, and $148,180 in County Funds, for a total of $175,218 paying for wages and benefits.

WHEREAS, the Illinois Criminal Justice Information Authority (ICJIA) has announced the continuation of a 12-month grant in the amount of $24,334 for the State’s Attorney’s Juvenile Accountability Block Grant/Juvenile Court Services program (Agreement #507002) to provide staffing to allow greater focus on violent juvenile offender prosecutions, and the reduction of overall case backlog; and

WHEREAS, the grant program will fund a portion of the salaries for two Assistant State’s Attorneys in the Juvenile Division; and

WHEREAS, the program budget of $175,218, as submitted to ICJIA, consists of $24,334 federal funds (a decrease of $182 from FFY2008), $2,704 required matching local funds (a decrease of $20 from FFY2008), and $148,180 in overmatch funds (a decrease of $1,285 from FFY2008) all of which shall be provided from the specified accounts outlined in the table below; and
