Title

Discussion of proposed ordinance amendments to the Lake County, Illinois Code of Ordinances to regulate entertainment-oriented animal exhibitions in unincorporated Lake County.

Staff Summary

Previously, Planning, Building and Development Department engaged the Public Works, Planning and Transportation Committee in a series of discussions to gather initial feedback and direction on a draft set of ordinance amendments related to entertainment-oriented animal exhibitions.

The updated final draft of the amendments, attached as “Exhibit A,” would prohibit entertainment-oriented animal exhibitions in the unincorporated area with the exception of properties zoned and established as permanent venues for such exhibitions with such animals housed on-site.

The animal exhibition topic is first in a series of wildlife and nature-oriented text amendment topics to be introduced to the Committee over the summer. Upon conclusion of the discussion series, staff will return to the Committee this fall with a comprehensive packet of amendments and present a final version for the Committee to formally initiate the Zoning Board of Appeals public hearing process.
