Resolution proclaiming support of the 2010 Census.

PROCLAMATION

 

WHEREAS, the United States Constitution requires a Census of the population of the United States every ten years; and

 

WHEREAS, Federal law requires every resident, citizen and non-citizen alike, to participate in the Census and, by law, all information collected through the Census remains confidential for 72 years and the Census Bureau cannot share information with any Federal, State or local agency; and 

 

WHEREAS, Census data are used to apportion the number of seats each state has in the US House of Representatives, the redistricting of state legislatures, determining county board districts, and defining voting districts; and

 

WHEREAS, Census data are used to allocate Federal funding for infrastructure and social and economic programs beneficial to all County residents and are frequently used by businesses seeking to grow; and

 

WHEREAS, the County of Lake recognizes the equal importance of all of its residents and understands that it is the intent of the Census to count every person, thereby providing a complete and accurate report of the County’s population.

 

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT PROCLAIMED by this County Board of Lake County, Illinois, that we do hereby express our support for the 2010 Census and encourage all residents to fill out and return their Census questionnaires and BE COUNTED!
