· Traffic Signal Equipment Upgrade 2010: Appropriation
· The county owns over 145 traffic signals and various pieces of equipment portions of which annually need to be replaced and upgraded.
· The 2010 work concentrates on installing Uninterrupted Power Supply (UPS) at 14 intersections that have LED signals indications installed but no UPS’s.
· UPS units only work at signals with low energy using LED signal indications.
· Before a project letting can be held an appropriation of $120,000 of Motor Fuel Tax funds is necessary.

R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, in order to reduce occurrences of “dark” traffic signal indications at various signalized intersections throughout the county highway system due to the interruption of electric service, the Division of Transportation is undertaking a project to install Uninterrupted Power Supply (UPS) at 14 intersections; and
WHEREAS, a survey of traffic control signals at various intersection throughout the county highway system for said Uninterrupted Power Supply (UPS) installation has been completed; and
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED by this County Board of Lake County, Illinois, that there is hereby appropriated $120,000 of Motor Fuel Tax funds for the 2010 Uninterrupted Power Supply (UPS) installation and designated as Section 10-00000-13-GM.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this appropriation be processed by the County Engineer for final approval of the Illinois Department of Transportation in accordance with the “Agreement of Understanding” between the Illinois Department of Transportation and Lake County, dated January 22, 2003.
