Resolution accepting a sustainable building and development best practices report and directing the Planning, Building and Development Department to disseminate the report to municipal and other key stakeholders.
Staff Summary
· A goal of the County’s Strategic Plan is to “promote a sustainable environment”.
· Pursuant to this goal, the Planning, Building and Development Department sought funding to assist in surveying regionally-relevant sustainable best practices that promote a sustainable environment.
· The County subsequently applied for and received an energy efficiency community block grant from the US Department of Energy to fund consulting services for a sustainable best practices study.
· On April 13, 2010, the County Board adopted a joint resolution to enter into a contract with The Lakota Group to conduct the study and prepare a report.
· After conducting research and facilitating a series of meetings with municipal representatives, the Regional Planning Commission, and private sector stakeholders, the consultant prepared a sustainable best practices report.
· The report provides background to the Department’s upcoming initiative to facilitate sustainability amendments to the Lake County Regional Framework Plan, which will ultimately lead to the introduction of new ordinances and programs that promote and incent sustainable building and development in Lake County.

WHEREAS, the Lake County Strategic Plan identifies the goal to “Promote a Sustainable Environment” and further calls to “preserve the health of our natural resources and our drinking water through the widespread use of sustainable and environmental management practices”; and
