SPECIAL RECOGNITION

WHEREAS, the Solid Waste Agency of Lake County (SWALCO) began operating in 1991 through the collaborative efforts of Lake County, its municipalities, and other local governmental entities to develop innovative, environmentally responsible solutions for solid waste management; and

WHEREAS, for thirty-five years, SWALCO has served as a regional leader in promoting sustainable waste management practices, fostering cooperation among its member communities, and protecting the health, safety, and natural resources of Lake County for current and future generations; and

WHEREAS, SWALCO has championed waste reduction, recycling, composting, household chemical waste collection, electronics recycling, food waste diversion, and public education initiatives that have helped residents and businesses reduce landfill waste while conserving valuable natural resources; and

WHEREAS, through strategic planning, regional partnerships, and innovative programming, SWALCO has assisted its forty-three municipal member communities in advancing environmentally sustainable practices, increasing recycling opportunities, and promoting responsible resource management throughout Lake County; and

WHEREAS, the Solid Waste Management Plan Update in 2024 continues to investigate, evaluate, and develop recommendations on how Lake County can divert the waste generated within the County to recyclable or compostable material; and

WHEREAS, SWALCO has demonstrated an unwavering commitment to environmental stewardship by supporting initiatives that reduce greenhouse gas emissions, encourage the reuse of materials, improve waste diversion rates, and strengthen the resilience and sustainability of Lake County communities; and
