· Implementing a Victim Offender Mediation program has been a priority for the Lake County Juvenile Justice Council and the State’s Attorney’s Office for several years.
· This program addresses the goals of the OJJDP and the priorities of the US Department of Justice and ICJIA in terms of reducing juvenile recidivism and assuring offender accountability.
· The program is 90% funded by the grant in the amount of $29,190, (for the award period of January 1, 2011 to November 30, 2011) and a 10% cash match in the amount of $3,250 is required; no match funds are being requested from the County’s general fund, but are being provided from local partners.
· The program will support one part time Coordinator, which will be contracted in order to minimize costs and to provide a neutral party for the facilitation of the program.
· The program will also fund mediation training, equipment and supplies to support the program, and the cost of an external evaluation of the program’s progress and program design.
· This program will be embedded into the 19th Judicial Circuit’s Juvenile Voluntary Supervision Diversion Program, and will provide a platform for victims to talk face to face with juvenile offenders of non-violent crimes.
